As a preview of what’s to come from our makeup services, we’ll share a few makeup tips right here and right now.
Don’t: Layer Liquid Over Powder
There's a lot of room to experiment with makeup. That said, there are a couple guidelines that can help you achieve your best looks. And one of those is that we don’t recommend layering liquid and cream formulas on top of powder foundations, blushes, highlighters, or contour products. Powder products are drier and can cause liquids to cling to your skin in a mighty unflattering, patchy manner.
Do: Pair Like With Like
Using products with a similar consistency helps create a seamless makeup look. That means using both a cream blush and contour or pairing powder foundation with powder bronzer. Of course, mixing consistencies can be great if done right (it can even increase the longevity of your makeup!). To do just that, apply liquids and creams first, then powders. It’s when you switch the order that you may run into issues.
Don’t: Skip Washing Your Makeup Brushes
One of the biggest beauty mistakes is to never (or rarely) clean your makeup brushes and tools. It may seem like it’s just an extra chore, but not washing them can have real consequences for your makeup looks—and your skin. Starting with the former, dirty brushes won’t apply makeup as well. They can’t pick up product correctly because the bristles are already caked in makeup. As for your skin, unclean brushes can transfer dirt and oil to your skin and lead to blemishes. We recommend deep cleansing brushes with our Makeup Brush Cleaner at least once a week.
Do: Use Makeup Brushes
While washing your brushes and makeup sponges may take a bit of time, it’s 100% worth it over either alternative: using dirty brushes or going without brushes. Pairing the right brush with the right product can help said product perform better, making a significant difference in your beauty routine.
